Two-Stage Centrifugal Compressor Commissioned at a Pulp and Paper Mill in Guangxi
Project Background
A large pulp and paper mill in Guangxi, part of a global pulp and paper group, operates a raw-water treatment plant whose compressed air station supplies process and instrument air. As part of its programme of clean production and energy reduction, the mill wanted to raise the efficiency of this station and improve its reliability.
Water-treatment and paper-mill utilities run continuously, so the replacement compressor had to combine high efficiency at large flow with a simple, robust design that is easy to maintain.
Solution
Equipment: The station was equipped with a SIND TurboPure MT series centrifugal compressor, rated at 200 Nm³/min and 0.8 MPa. The compressor was installed and commissioned at the water-treatment plant’s air station. Its key design features:
- Two-stage compression to 0.8 MPa. Three-dimensional-flow impeller technology reaches the full discharge pressure in only two stages, giving a more compact and streamlined machine.
- Fewer moving parts. The simpler rotor and gear arrangement improves operating stability and makes maintenance easier.
- Oil-free compressed air. As a centrifugal machine, it delivers oil-free air to the process.
- High efficiency at large flow. Centrifugal compression is well suited to steady base-load duty at this flow rate.
Cooling, drying, filtration, pipework layout and control were considered together with the compressor, so that the whole system runs efficiently and stably.
Results
- 200 Nm³/min rated flow at 0.8 MPa, commissioned smoothly at the mill’s water-treatment plant.
- Two-stage centrifugal design with fewer moving parts for higher stability and easier maintenance.
- Oil-free air for process and instrument use.
