37 kW Variable-Speed Compressor for a New-Materials Plant in Guangdong
Project Background
A new-materials manufacturer in Guangdong runs production equipment around the clock. Its compressed-air demand rises and falls with each production cycle. The plant’s process equipment is sensitive to pressure fluctuations: unstable pressure reduces output and affects product consistency.
With conventional fixed-speed compressors, those demand swings caused continuous loading and unloading. That wasted energy during low-demand periods and made it harder to hold a steady network pressure. The plant set three requirements for a new air supply: stable pressure, lower energy use, and better visibility of equipment condition so that maintenance could be planned rather than reactive.
Solution
Equipment: The plant installed a 37 kW SIND SILVERLUBE-VPM series permanent-magnet variable-speed screw compressor:
- Demand-matched output. The PM motor speed adjusts automatically to actual air demand, so the compressor delivers only the air that is needed. It avoids the idle running and frequent load/unload cycles of fixed-speed machines.
- Stable discharge pressure. Closed-loop speed control holds network pressure steady through production-cycle swings, protecting process stability and product quality.
- Condition monitoring. The controller displays operating status, discharge pressure and temperature in real time. It also provides fault warnings and maintenance reminders, so staff can act before problems lead to unplanned stops.
Results
The compressor has been in production service with stable performance on all operating indicators:
- Air supply fully matched to the plant’s fluctuating demand.
- Stable network pressure, supporting consistent product quality and yield.
- Up to 35% expected energy saving compared with fixed-speed load/unload operation.
- Planned maintenance, enabled by real-time monitoring and alerts, reducing the risk of unexpected shutdowns.
