High-Efficiency Air Station at a Powder-Metallurgy Plant in Anhui

Project Background

The powder metallurgy industry is one of the high-energy-consuming sectors, with energy consumption mainly concentrated in steel, non-ferrous metals, and aluminium. According to statistical data, the energy consumption of the metallurgical industry accounts for about 20% of the total industrial energy consumption in the country, with over 50% of it being electricity. Additionally, the equipment used in the metallurgical industry often operates under high temperature and pressure conditions, leading to low energy utilisation rates and high energy consumption. The existing air compressor system at the powder metallurgy company had several issues, including outdated equipment, inadequate cold-dryer capacity, poor maintenance, and insufficient air supply, leading to frequent alarms and shutdowns.

Solution

Equipment: SIND SILVERLUBE-VPM series PM VSD screw compressors

The solution involved the installation of the SIND SILVERLUBE-VPM series PM VSD screw compressors, which are known for their high efficiency and reliability. The system also included zero-loss storage tanks, zero-pressure-loss cold-dryers, precision filters, and aluminium super pipelines to ensure system stability and reliability. Additionally, an intelligent control management platform was installed to enable automated control of the air compressors, allowing users to monitor data through a mobile application or PC and generate reports, issue warnings, and manage the lifecycle of the equipment.

Results

After the installation of the SIND SILVERLUBE-VPM series PM VSD screw compressors, the system achieved a comprehensive transmission efficiency of 57.4%, exceeding the Grade-1 energy efficiency standard by 4.36%. Compared to before the upgrade, the energy savings reached over 29.1%, with an annual energy saving of approximately 100,000 kWh (with an annual operating time of about 3,000 hours). This resulted in a reduction of approximately 99.7 tons of CO2 emissions. According to the National Forestry Bureau standards, reducing 1 ton of CO2 emissions is equivalent to planting 55.54 trees, which means the project is equivalent to planting approximately 5,537 trees.
