Technology

Technology Platform

SkidPower DS uses oil-injected rotary screw compression driven by a branded diesel engine on an open skid frame. The skid is designed for permanent or semi-permanent installation — crane lift or forklift for positioning, but not public-road towing. Light-load starting, intake filtration, cooling, fuel tank and control panel are standard skid features.

Why Skid-Mounted (Non-Towable)?

SkidPower DS addresses a specific installation pattern:

Key Design Decision: Diesel Engine

The diesel engine is the driver of last resort where grid supply is unavailable. It carries higher running cost per hour than an electric motor (fuel, engine maintenance, shorter overhaul interval), but it removes the dependency on electrical infrastructure. Site conditions set the engine specification: ambient, altitude, dust and fuel quality all affect engine output and life.

More technical detail

Why Skid-Mounted (Non-Towable)?

  • No grid supply — the site has no electrical supply at the point of work, or the supply is unreliable.
  • Permanent or semi-permanent — the machine stays in one location for months or years, not days or weeks.
  • No road towing — the machine is positioned by crane or forklift, not towed on public roads. This removes the cost and regulation of road-legal trailers, lighting, braking and registration.

Thermal Balance

SkidPower DS is designed with separate cooling circuits for engine and compressor. Engine heat is kept out of the compression path. Design ambient is 40 °C. Above this, discharge temperature runs high; check intake blockage and cooler condition first.

Selection & quote checklist

  1. No grid supply — Or unreliable supply at point of work
  2. Permanent or semi-permanent — Machine stays in one location for months
  3. No road towing — Positioned by crane or forklift
  4. the exact model and configuration
  5. required operating pressure and flow
  6. fuel quality and site altitude

Applications

Remote Mining Site

A remote mining site requires compressed air for instrumentation and plant air but has no grid supply.

Oil and Gas Field

An oil and gas field requires compressed air for wellhead instrumentation, purging and testing. Grid supply is unavailable at the wellhead.

Standby and Backup

A manufacturing site has grid supply but the supply is unreliable, causing production losses.

Ownership & service

Energy, maintenance and service

Target Industries and Markets

SkidPower DS is specified where compressed air is required but grid supply is unavailable or unreliable:

  • Mining and quarrying — remote sites with no grid supply.
  • Oil and gas field servicing — wellhead air for instrumentation, purging and testing.
  • Remote construction — infrastructure projects in areas without grid supply.
  • Standby and backup — where grid supply exists but is unreliable.
  • Agriculture and irrigation — pneumatic systems in areas without grid supply.

How This Compares with Mobile (Towable) Units

SkidPower DS is a skid, not a towable. Where the machine must move between sites on public roads, MobilPower DM towable is the correct choice. Where the machine stays in one location and is positioned by crane or forklift, SkidPower DS removes the cost and regulation of road-legal trailers.

Specifications vary by configuration; confirm with the datasheet. Dimensions and weights are indicative; request the installation drawing for the specific model before designing foundations or access routes.

Reference data

Full specification and reference tables
  1. No grid supply — Or unreliable supply at point of work
  2. Permanent or semi-permanent — Machine stays in one location for months
  3. No road towing — Positioned by crane or forklift
  4. the exact model and configuration
  5. required operating pressure and flow
  6. fuel quality and site altitude
  7. the current datasheet and package contents
  1. SkidPower DS or MobilPower DM?

SkidPower DS is a skid for permanent or semi-permanent installation, positioned by crane or forklift. MobilPower DM is a towable mobile unit for sites that move frequently. Choose DS if the machine stays in one location; DM if it moves between sites on public roads.

  2. What ambient range can it take?

Design ambient is 40 °C. Above this, discharge temperature runs high; check intake blockage and cooler hot-air escape first.

  3. What happens at altitude?

Engine output and delivered air both fall with elevation. Do not assume a sea-level nameplate flow at site elevation.

  4. How dusty a site can it take?

On multi-dust sites a pre-separator ahead of the main intake element extends element life. State the actual dust condition at enquiry.

  5. Maintenance and spares?

Engine oil and filters, intake filtration, coolant, compressor lubricant and separator service. Intervals and part numbers are available on request.

  6. What fuel does it use?

Diesel. Confirm the fuel grade and quality requirements for the site — fuel quality affects engine output and service life.

Sizing & selection notes

  • Match free air delivery to measured demand, with room for future production lines.
  • Set working pressure at the point of use, including pressure drop across filters and dryers.
  • Define the dryness and filtration you actually need, not the highest class by default.
  • Weigh lubricated against oil-free, and fixed against variable speed, for your load profile.
  • Allow for ambient temperature, altitude, ventilation and duty cycle, which cut usable capacity.
