Shared Compressed Air Station for Multiple Enterprises
Project Background
A shared compressed air station was connected to two manufacturing enterprises within an industrial park and began supplying compressed air. Compared to individual enterprises building their own compressed air stations, shared stations offer greater capacity, more concentrated resources, and a lower energy efficiency ratio.
Air compressors are specialised machines that convert electrical energy into the pressure energy of air, widely used in industrial production. However, when enterprises supply compressed air independently — especially in small and micro industrial parks — air compressors are often scattered, have small capacities, and lack maintenance, leading to low energy conversion rates and high energy waste.
Two adjacent manufacturing enterprises in the park both require compressed air during production. A local utility’s energy team conducted consumption tests and analyses, finding that air compressors account for approximately 40% to 50% of production electricity usage. The enterprises were using low-efficiency air compressors, and also faced issues such as unreasonable pipeline design and lack of professional maintenance.
Solution & Configuration
To help enterprises conserve energy and reduce costs, a local power utility initiated the project to improve air supply efficiency and planned a shared compressed air station providing centralised air supply to multiple enterprises. After rigorous preliminary evaluations, enterprise coordination, and intensive construction, the station was successfully put into operation. The station is equipped with 4 SIND StationPack integrated compressed air stations, with a maximum air supply capacity of 94.8 cubic meters per minute and a supply pressure of up to 8 bar. It is expected to provide 23.76 million cubic meters of compressed air annually.
Results
Based on actual usage calculations, the shared compressed air station has reduced its energy efficiency ratio from 0.130 kWh/cubic meter to 0.11 kWh/cubic meter. This saves approximately 475,200 kWh of electricity and reduces CO₂ emissions by about 271 tons annually, improving energy utilisation efficiency and effectively reducing energy consumption.
The shared compressed air station has formed a “chain effect,” with additional centralised air supply projects planned for other industrial parks. In the future, enterprises in these parks will add rooftop distributed photovoltaic projects and charging station construction, alongside the shared compressed air station, to create a more energy-efficient and low-carbon industrial park.
