44 Variable-Speed Compressors for a Large Exhibition Venue in Beijing
Project Background
A large international exhibition and convention centre in Beijing needed a central compressed air supply for a wide range of uses:
- Exhibition build-up: heavy equipment installation and complex stand construction need industrial-grade air volume.
- Exhibits and catering: precision exhibits and the venue’s kitchens need stable, clean air.
- Full-occupancy events: network pressure must stay at 0.8 MPa ±5% even when every hall is in use.
- Low noise and low energy: the venue follows a low-carbon policy, with strict limits on energy use and on operating noise, since some equipment sits next to exhibition halls.
Above all, air supply could not fail during an event.
Solution
Equipment: 44 × SIND PM variable-speed screw compressors (SILVERLUBE-VPM series); IoT remote monitoring with predictive maintenance
The venue installed 44 SIND permanent-magnet variable-speed screw compressors, distributed to match the layout and peak demand of the halls:
- Variable-speed operation. Output follows actual demand, which avoids unload losses during the long low-load periods between build-up and show days.
- Low-noise design. Operating noise below typical industry levels allows installation close to the halls.
- IoT monitoring with predictive maintenance. Pressure and air purity are tracked in real time, with up to 72 hours’ advance warning of developing faults.
- Modular, quick-release construction. Maintenance time is cut by about 70%, and the main overhaul interval exceeds 10,000 hours.
- Sized for peaks. The layout was based on calculated peak demand, with a 20% capacity reserve, and coordinated with the venue’s dual-circuit power supply for seamless start-stop.
Results
44 compressors in service across the venue.
0.8 MPa ±5% supply pressure held during full-occupancy events.
20% reserve capacity above calculated peak demand.
About 70% shorter maintenance time thanks to the modular design.
Fault response within 2 hours under the service agreement, supported by remote monitoring.
