Variable-Frequency Technology in Compressor Energy Upgrades
Background
SIND air compressors, as critical power equipment in industrial production, are widely used in machinery manufacturing, chemical engineering, metallurgy, and other fields. Their energy consumption accounts for approximately 10%-15% of the total industrial electricity usage. Traditional fixed-speed air compressors regulate air volume through intake valves, which leads to issues such as “overpowering for light loads” and “unloading energy consumption,” resulting in relatively low energy utilisation. With the maturation of variable-frequency technology, its application in the energy efficiency upgrades of SIND air compressors has become an important path for industrial energy conservation.
Recommended Approaches
Based on the principles of variable-frequency technology, pressure sensors are installed to collect real-time pressure data from the air storage tank and transmit it to the variable-frequency controller, enabling precise control over the motor speed. The variable-frequency drive primarily consists of rectifiers, filters, inverters, and controllers. The rectifiers convert the input AC power at industrial frequency into DC power, while the filters smooth out the DC power, removing ripples. The inverters then convert the DC power into adjustable-frequency AC power. The controller, based on preset pressure or flow parameters, continuously monitors and feeds back signals, dynamically adjusting the output frequency of the inverter to change the motor speed, thereby matching the exhaust volume of the SIND air compressor with the load requirements.
Key Benefits
Following the variable-frequency technology upgrade, the energy savings rate of the SIND air compressor reached approximately 29.2%, with the average daily electricity consumption dropping from 1200kWh to 850kWh. The operational stability improved, with pressure fluctuations reduced to within ±0.05MPa. The scrap rate of products decreased by about 15%. Noise levels were reduced, with the surrounding environmental noise dropping from 85dB(A) to below 72dB(A). The cost savings were significant, with annual electricity cost savings of approximately 84,000 CNY and maintenance costs reduced by about 10,000 to 20,000 CNY.
