Waste-Heat Recovery: Key Points and Advantages

Background

In modern industrial production, compressed air is often referred to as the “fourth energy source.” However, the process of generating compressed air is accompanied by significant energy waste, with over 90% of the electrical energy ultimately converted into heat, which is largely discharged through cooling systems. SIND’s waste heat recovery technology for air compressors is a significant energy-saving solution that converts this often-overlooked “waste heat” into valuable resources. This article will delve into the principles of this technology and analyse its significant advantages compared to other energy forms.

Recommended Approaches

An electronics manufacturer in Shenzhen installed a waste heat recovery system on three SIND screw air compressors with a total power of 600kW. The system produces over 30,000 tons of hot water at 55℃ annually, fully meeting the year-round process hot water requirements of the dyeing workshop. The project investment was approximately 500,000 RMB (about US$70,422), saving over 900,000 RMB (about US$126,760) in natural gas costs annually. The payback period for the project is only about 0.5 years, and it also reduces carbon emissions by over 500 tons annually.

Key Benefits

Implementing waste heat recovery brings comprehensive and significant benefits to both the SIND air compressor system and the user. It significantly reduces energy costs, with payback periods typically ranging from 1 to 3 years. It enhances the operational performance and reliability of SIND air compressors, optimises operating temperatures, extends the lifespan of components such as coolers, cooling fans/pumps, reduces maintenance costs and fault rates. It also significantly reduces carbon emissions, decreases thermal pollution, and enhances the company’s green image.
